Outdoor enthusiasts rejoice! Northern Ireland is a stunning place where natural beauty and adventure are abundant. Read on to find inspiration to start planning your own trip to explore the amazing sights of the land of the Irish!
1. The Giant's Causeway
Starting off with the most obvious reason to visit NI (Northern Ireland) is the Giant's Causeway. People flock from all over the world to explore the awe-inspiring basalt columns and jaw-dropping cliffs. There is much to explore within the boundaries of this National Trust park including several trails that lead up to amazing view points. Just be careful not to get to close to the edge of the rocks, they are incredibly slippery from the spray off the ocean.
2. Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge
Not too far down the road from the Giant's Causeway is another NI gem, the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge. There is a bit of a walk from the parking lot to the bridge but you will hardly notice because of the insane views along the trail. The bridge itself is underwhelming but once you are on the island looking back at the main land you will understand why this is such a tourist hotspot!
3. Dunluce Castle
This medieval oceanside castle is also nearby to the above two sights, making them the perfect trio for a day trip! Dunluce was much smaller than I was expecting, however it's location is hard to beat.
4. Ballintoy Harbour
This is a must for any Game of Thrones fans! Much of the show was filmed in NI and this one of the locations. It is also a beautiful stop for the scenery alone!
5. Green Castle
This is a lesser known and visited castle in NI located just south of Kilkeel. We were lucky enough to be shown around by some of my husband's family who live in Ireland. Set amongst green rolling hills spotted with sheep grazing, this is the Ireland I had always dreamt of.
There is so much more to do than just what is listed here, but this is a good start for any first timers traveling to NI. If you have any other must-dos leave me a comment below! I know I'll be back soon!
